It depends on what schools, what class(es), and what rules apply. Tell your teacher that you're having trouble but you want to start doing. After all, failed classes could mean a lower gpa, difficulty getting into college, and perhaps even trouble graduating from high school on time.

You might need to go to summer school or do an online class. Advisors can explain to students how pass/fail classes could hurt their chances at getting into graduate school, for example. Don’t blow off any of them.

If failing a class is a problem, then worrying about the effect such as with gpa is not going to be a problem. Many high schools only allow students to drop a class before a certain deadline.
